This article got my attention. Comfort food from around the world is always interesting. This aryicle covers every point on earth. Sweet to savory and even spicy.
It made me think about what I call comfort food. Mac and cheese! Egg Drop Soup with fried wontons, fried rice, cream cheese ragoons with sweet and sour sauce. Lasagna with garlic cheese bread. Olive Garden’s Black Tie Cheesecake. Garlic bread sticks. Oh my God.
Tamales are the thing I can’t get enough of. Chulupas from Taco Bell. Soft pillow bread compared to tortillas. World of difference is amazing.
Here’s another salsa project. I watch Becky often and really enjoy her channel. I hope y’all will take time to check her out uf you aren’t familiar with her channel.
Yesterday I did a video on shortages I feel is coming and rising inflation. I came across this article yesterday while waiting for my lunch to heat up. I read this article and it surprised me a bit.
Eat This polled readers to gauge the shortages that were frustrating shoppers the most. Number one wasn’t toilet paper. It wasn’t even anything humans could use. Cat Food. Yeah! I showed in my video last Wednesday the sign telling customers where they can purchase their cat’s favorite food or specialty foods.
The next thing was cream cheese. The Kraft brand was gone in the video Wednesday. There were maybe 20 boxes of store brand. Pasta was next. Again I buy store brand. Stock up when it’s 10/$10.
With that I do believe we’ll start seeing more people making their own pasta. Having dried pasta on hand is awesome. Downside is the space needed to store it. If you learn how to make pasta and have the equipment to make as needed will leave more available space for other preps.
SALSA! Okay I couldn’t resist. There are so many different versions of salsa as there countries on earth. I love a salsa that has a nice earthy flavor with just a bit of spice.
I have made Sloppy Joe Sauce from one of my Ball books. It’s awesome! Being able to make can your own sauces regardless of their intended use is incredible feeling. This is a new channel and I haven’t had time to go through it. I hope y’all enjoy this canning project.
Wednesday I posted the first food shortage video for 2022. Right off the bat, we are starting 2022 with shortages and chaos in Kazakhstan. I didn’t do any photos of the stores during the holiday because that’s not right. During the holidays is hard to keep things on the shelf because people are always coming in and grabbing last-minute items. The situation in Kazakhstan is partially the result of food shortages, inflation on everyday items, and being forced to do things and take things they don’t want.
The situation in America with food shortages is hit or miss. Dole has done a voluntary recall on lettuce. Below will be a link to an article with details. This year will also bring more diverse farming techniques. As David Dubyne talks about in his video Production and Prices Will change in 2022 (FORECAST). David has been studying this subject longer than me which is why I do recommend him all the time. Tyler Durden has an article on the inflationary prices of cooking oils. We all use these oils in one form or another. Prices are going up. There’s no getting around it.
Here’s what I am going to attempt to make today. Antonia loves the rolls at Subway. They are soft enough they are easy to bite through. Sturdy enough to hold sandwich fillings.
Of course, the roll has got to be able to accommodate fillings like chicken or tuna salad. Or mayo, mustard, and a lot of people like oil and vinegar dressing.
Cheese! Now we get to my favorite part of a sandwich. I grew up on the yellow American. As an adult I prefer white sharp cheddar. I also enjoy cheeses like gouda, munster, and good old feta. Over the last couple of years I have seen fetta whipped into a dip or spread consistency.
As for my favorite fillings like no love Cuban sandwiches. It’s pressed crunchy bread with swiss cheese pork two ways. A sliced dill pickle with mayo on one side and mustard on the other side. Then put it on a griddle or a panini press. That will create the beautiful crunchy crust.
How about y’all? What is your favorite sandwich? Fillings? Mayo or Miracle Whip?
Rachel and Todd her husband, go through the process of making beef bone broth. I found their channel a couple of years ago and I absolutely enjoy it. Rachel and Todd do a bit of everything. Except freeze drying as far as I know. Don’t forget to comment for an opportunity to win a Presto 23 qt canner.
Growing up in the South there was Pimento Cheese everywhere. Seriously! Everyone had their secret touch that either made the spread or killed it.
Usually we just spread on bread. It’s sweet from the mayo spicy from the hot sauce. Personally, I would smoked paprika instead of hot sauce. I just like the smoky flavor. Perhaps cumin for a nice earthy flavor.
That’s the great thing when you make stuff from scratch, you can change things as you choose.
