Here are some wonderful vintage recipes. You know the foods we grew up with. Chicken pot pie, chicken and dumplings, cobblers and deviled eggs. I am ready to start drooling. Did I mention mac and cheese. Yeah! I just made it yesterday before I saw this article.
What is a homemaker? What is a home? Last week I jumped the value of homemaker. We examined the task and its ‘monetary value’. The homemaker makes the home a warm and inviting place for the family to come home to. After a long day at work, most people (I understand that sometimes the man is the homemaker) like to come home to the smell of dinner, see a clean house, and a smiling face. This is what a home is. That place you come to at the end of a day and you don’t have to worry about the outside world. The home is warm, inviting, and that safe place you can be you. No personas or mask needed.
Your home should reflect who you are at your core. What do you like? What are your favorite things or activities? Your home should reflect that. Just know that as you get older, your taste will change so don’t feel like you have to spend hundreds of dollars on decor. Plus when you add a mate into the mix you are going to add their personality to the decor so they feel like this is their home too. Then you have the children. Your house goes from an intimate nest to a romper room. It’s important to keep the master bedroom a ‘sanctuary’ for the two of you.
Tips for new homemakers;
Be honest with yourself about your life experience and where being a homemaker fits in. Asses if you can handle being at home all the time or if looking at the same rooms and doing the same task over every day is for you. If you’re okay with it, great. Go for it! If you’d rather put your head through a window than look at the same rooms and do the same task, perhaps full-time homemaking isn’t for you. If you go against your nature, you will regret it.
Establish routines now. The older we get the more set in our ways we become. No joke! Once you and your mate have decided if there will be a full-time homemaker or part-time the two of you can then set up routines to be done daily, weekly, and monthly. Each will be different. Also, decide if you want to homestead with a full farm garden or if you’re going to be urbanites.
Post children. What will be the routine after you start adding children to the house? Do you live where child care is affordable? Congrats! Most people like my cousin found it was cheaper for her to stay home with their one (now two) child. I want to encourage you to have a parent or grandparent home when children come home from school.
Next is a public school or home school. Over the past year, more parents have been pushed into the role of teacher. I say this as someone who has put a child through the public school system, home school your children. They are going to be better off. I am including this because it will have to be figured into the routine schedule. The good news is if you decide to homeschool, you don’t have to keep to a regular schedule. It’s totally flexible. Do two lessons after breakfast, then chores, and spread it out. Homeschooling does offer a great deal of flexibility.
Once these questions are answered, you are ready to start homemaking.
I just came across this article about the original design of Kikkoman’s Soy Sauce bottle. I never knew the creator of Kikkoman’s survived one of the atomic bomb dropped on Japan during WW II. I really never gave much thought to those who created products I use till I got older.
This us a story about survival and perseverance. I had to share it here and everywhere I possibly can.
Over the weekend we saw the “attack” on the Colonel pipeline which runs from Texas to New Jersey. How is this going to affect the cost of meat? It’s going to drive up the cost of food because of the cost of gas going up. Liesa Sutton and her husband raise pigs for themselves and others in their community. Unfortunately, last week she had to do the one thing she never wanted to do, call clients about a rise in the cost of pigs. Luckily they only had two clients back out. This is just the start. Keep in mind Liesa and Phil run a small business, meaning they aren’t your Agri farm.
She talked about the shortage of meat. In the last video I did on a walkthrough I showed empty coolers at Wal-Mart and sugar pellets that took two days to get filled up. This is only May and we still have seven months left of 2021. Buckle your seatbelts. Now let’s move to what the cost of the National Emergency will mean for us. I found an article on the rationing that was done during World War II. They had little stickers on the cars that Mrs. Fix saw at a car show from the 1940s. Each sticker had a marker on which indicated what the allotment was provided. Why is the relevant now? The pipeline we are talking about is one of the major suppliers to America especially across the South East running from South East Texas to the North into New Jersey. All along there are Army supply stations. Now if you and I create too much demand for gas there is a chance it could get rationed. There have already been stations rationing gas on their own. Go to Marfooglenews.com and you can see a video of people talking about the gas shortages, stations running out of gas, and the rationing that the stores were told to do.
Let’s address something else, the unemployment and the ‘labor shortage’. There is no labor shortage. There is, however, a group of people who are sick of getting screwed over by starvation wages, no health benefits, and crappy hours. They are also sick of hostile workplaces. There are fast food places across the country that are closing stores because they can’t keep people staffed. Why not? They have burned through the population in those areas. We are on the verge of a major movement. I don’t know how long it will take but I do know people in America are getting sick of being used up like paper towels.

Stories like this makes me Scratch my head. We are supposed to be in a cold war with them yet we are selling them agri products. This is as stupid as the blame game in lamestream media.
Here’s the most recent update on Heather at the Kneady Homesteader. She’s home with her youngest two children finally and her dad and step mom are going to stay with them for a while. Her dad is bouncing around ideas to share on her channel to help keep her channel high in the recommended list.
Here’s an interesting article on canning for beginners. I don’t think we can ever have enough information about canning basic skills. The basic knowledge is well, basic must know skills. There is a science to canning food safely. Trust me when I say divorce would be cheaper than a homicide trial. Yeah! If not done properly canned food can become dangerous. Costco just did a recall last week on black beans. So here is a list of foods which should never be home canned only because the equipment is crazy expensive to can safely; eggs, pasta, rice, and flour. That’s it. Four items which should not be home canned. If you have five or more years of canning experience please feel free to share advice and stories here.
