Rising Food Cost and Protein Alternatives

Have you been to the store lately? If not, take your barf bag with you because you’re going to need it. We went Saturday to Walmart and loaded up on beans that we will eat in the place of meat. First of all, we aren’t going Vegan. This is us trying to figure out how to have a fully rounded meal without breaking the bank. We got four twelve-packs of beans with each can costing $0.62 each. The mushrooms I got were $0.92 each they were not store brand. They are Pennsylvania Dutchmen. Kind of a high-end brand. That same four-ounce can will be about $2.29 at Kroger. We also purchased some seitan for $4.39 and tempeh for $3.99 to use in the place of meat at less than the cost of meat. We also purchased extra firm tofu for $1.89 per box and we got four. I plan on getting four more. You can’t buy meat for $1.89 per pound. I didn’t get the Kroger brand of kielbasa smoked because it’s damn good.

With the cost of meat going up we are all going to be forced to consider alternatives. Let’s find them together instead of out there by ourselves. What are you doing to balance the rising cost of meat as your protein source? How far are you willing to push back against these bastards for jacking up the prices?

Homemakers Essential: Binders

Binders are a homemaker’s essential tool. I have a number of them set up for recipes, home-keeping, and prepping. They help to keep the chaos organized to a point.

It’s a good idea to keep the recipes you want to try in one as soon as you print it out. Or you could accidentally print something else over it. As I did Sunday. I had some recipes that I printed out and didn’t set up a binder for recipes to try. Meanwhile, I have been looking for these recipes every since. Until Sunday when I found them after printing something else over it.

Now that you have witnessed what can go wrong by not taking care of these matters in a timely manner, I hope you will learn from my mistake. Put a binder together then start printing.

Chinese Recipes – Cantonese Cooking

https://www.thespruceeats.com/chinese-cantonese-cooking-4084883

Here’s another wonderful article a out Chinese cuisine. These recipes made me drool. This article goes into the history of Chinese Cuisine in America. Plus it gives links to other articles.

China has as many variations of classic dishes like Sweet and Sour Chicken as you could dream of. Usually your Sichuan tends to be spicy. At least a bit more spicy then what you might get in Beijing. Of course, coastal cities will have more seafood then country side. Country side is going to be like us. You can find chicken, duck, lamb, pork, and beef. I am sure there are other forms of protein but I covered the ones we are used to seeing.

I hope y’all will try to cook the recipes in this article at home. If not then please consider a family owned restaurant in your area

Post Biopsy Check In

I just wanted to say thank you for your patience and thoughts. It ended up being nothing to worry about right now. Hence the nothing-burger meme. However, we do still have to worry about who owns the complex we live in. I beginning to wonder if this is an opportunity to get into a different part of Monroe. We do like the town it’s fairly well. It’s quiet considering it is part of Metro Detroit. I am going to do another video on the Great Lakes Mega Region. I didn’t realize Monroe was going to be right in the center. Which will mean better opportunities for work in my daughter’s generation.

Here’s another mouth watering article from The Spruce Eats. It has so many dishes here and each one sounds amazing.

The one I’m looking forward to making is Mango Sweet Sticky Rice. While living in Florida I feel in love with mangos. So sweet. So worth the time it takes to get around the large seed in the middle.

If you try one of these wonderful dishes please share with everyone. We’d love to hear how it turned out.
