Grocery Store Shortages Comparable to 2020 — Are You Prepared for Lack of Supply During the Holidays?

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/grocery-store-shortages-comparable-2020-120028196.html

In August we got a turkey for both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. We also have a ham for Christmas eve. That’s something that we started three years ago. We do enjoy it.

Not only do we need to get the elements of our holiday meals, but we’re going to see people have a hard time getting Christmas gifts. Again I have already covered this. They aren’t crazy expensive. But they are things my daughter love…

I don’t expect her to get me anything expensive. Honestly I tell her all the time that she’s all I could ever ask for. Perhaps it’s time to get back to the basics of life. Maybe time to go back to the Waltons or Little House On The Prairie. A time when your time is the gift you give.

With that said, let’s be honest, Americans spend way too much money on material things. We don’t spend nearly enough time just engaging in conversation.

Crockpot Sweet Potato Casserole – Sweet and Savory Meals

https://sweetandsavorymeals.com/crockpot-sweet-potato-casserole/

Sweet Potatoes! I love these baked or mashed. I am in heaven y’all. I grew up eating fried sweet potatoes with brown sugar and pecans or walnuts which ever mom had on hand. And marshmallows… Sweet Baby Jesus.. My stomach is growling as I type this.

Every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas these little jewels were on the table. If I was lucky they made an appearance at News and Easter. Talk about motivation to do good in school. Sweet potatoes do offer a lot of nutrients as well. Another reason to chow down on them. Yes! You can and I have canned them.

Traditional Cuban Sandwich

https://www.yellowblissroad.com/cuban-sandwich-recipe/

This is the only thing I miss about Florida. That’s it.

Kristin did a great job with the picture of this sandwich. Seriously! Key thing about this sandwich, it’s super easy. The Cuban Cuisine isn’t full of fussy dish that require hours of oven time. No! Most Cubans I mert while living in Florida were salt of the earth people. They enjoyed life. Good food. Good friends and family. For most Cubans friends are also family.

Back to the sandwich. You have two forms of pork. Ham and roasted pork. Depending which end of Cuba the version your eating is from you may have mayo or mustard. You could end up with both. Then there’s the cheese. Are you ready? Swiss cheese. Yeah! I was shocked the first time I ever had this sandwich I couldn’t believe it.

I almost forgot the bread. 🤦‍♀️ The bread should be crusty. If you can’t get Cuban rolls for this sandwich the use a crusty French bread.

The cooking method. Most people will use a grill or griddle. You can also put it in you oven.

Watch “Empty Shelves in SE MI” on YouTube

Here we go again with the damn toilet paper. There’s a blind spot in the lame lying stream. Every time you turn on the television all you see is this stupid Oky-Doky syndrome. I call it selective stupidity. There are so many channels on YouTube and Bitchute who are showing you the truth. What is that? Empty shelves are here to stay. Eventually I expect to see them full again. You and I just won’t be able to afford it. It will be like what the book of Revelation talks about when it refers to a time when people will cast their gold to the streets cursing it. If you know the verse please leave it below.

Now what are you seeing in your area?

Aldi German Christmas Food Finds – International Desserts Blog

https://www.internationaldessertsblog.com/aldi-christmas-food-finds/

It’s that time of year. Aldi’s is rolling out their German Christmas treats. I look forward to this every year. The chocolate is beautiful. Not too sweet, but just enough.

Advent calendars can be expensive. Depending on where you go. Aldi’s has two choices. A very expensive choice and not so expensive. Both are a good buy. Of course, if you have a bunch of kids you may want to buy the candy and give it to them each day. Just an alternative choice.

Stollen. I have tried this once and I didn’t care for it. I will try it again though. Frozen desserts like German Apple cake, Black Forest Cake and others are going to ge available up till January.

Remember bring a quarter for the cart and your bags for your wonderful finds.

Serbian Potato Salad – Krompir Salata Recipe

https://www.thespruceeats.com/serbian-potato-salad-recipe-1137452

Potato Salad! I think potato salad has a bad rap for being heavy and not that good. The fact is when potato salad is done right, it’s beyond delicious.

What’s needed for that to happen? Veggies like green bell peppers, raw onions (I am not a fan of raw onions.) And of course, potatoes. Which potatoes? Ina Garten recommends Yukon Gold. They are lower in starch. So any low starch potato will work.

Now dressing. This is where people get into trouble. Dairy products can and will go bad in the heat of summer. So why not try a vinegar and oil based dressing.? I can’t think of one reason. Now that the potatoes are chosen and style of dressing has been selected it’s time to make the Serbian Potato Salad.

How to make a better grilled cheese – The Washington Post

https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2021/09/20/grilled-cheese-tips/

Grilled Cheese Sandwich! I don’t know anyone who didn’t grow up with a version of this wonderful sandwich. What’s fun is finding so many different versions from different points in the world.

To show you how widely loved grilled cheese sandwiches are, the French have Croque Monsieur. This is just a fancy grilled cheese sandwich. Italy has the Panini. These vary depending on where you are in Italy.

Mexico has the Quesadilla. While it differs in that they use a tortilla instead of bread. Otherwise, it’s the similar layout: starch, cheese, and griddled instead of grilled. Rather you grill this sandwich or griddle it, you have to decide on the filling.

As a kid growing up it was Kraft American singles and sometimes during the summer there would be a slice of tomato in it. Always perfectly cooked. My late father would use mayo and a cooked egg with the cheese. Or he’d use sandwich spread. What is that? Basically it’s mayo with relish.

As I get closer to fifty, I’m finding that I enjoy these simple things. Two years ago I decided for my fiftieth birthday I want the cover of Destroyer by KISS on my cake. Two years and a worldwide scam later, I just want to make it to fifty. I won’t lie, I am thinking about what I want for my dinner. I just devoured a small serving of chicken and dumplings. I will be getting a second helping. It’s that good.

Texas Chili Recipe (No Beans) | Kitchn

https://www.thekitchn.com/texas-chili-23214231

It’s officially Fall. Okay Wednesday was the first day. To me serong the first recipe for Chili makes Fall real.

Chili is to America what Curries are to Asian Countries like India and Thialand. Because there’s as many ways to make Chili/Curry as there are people eating them. Personally, I grew up on ground beef, tomato product, beans, and lots of time in the pot or slow cooker. Of course, there’s also the seasonings that are hotly debated over. Again salt, pepper, chili powder, and garlic.

Beans or no beans! That seems to be a never ending debate. I like kidney beans in my chili. Also, I enjoy corn in it as well. Sue me I’m strange. Mom also served corn bread so guess maybe it’s not so strange after all.

Pasta or no pasta! Okay on Ohio they serve chili over spaghetti. No thank you. Toppings, here’s the awesome part. I stack the sour cream and cheese high. Some like raw onions. I don’t but hey it’s your bowl, so go for it.

Overall, chili should be enjoyed by all as we see fit. You want it blazing spicy, so be it. A little bit of spice with smokiness, that’s the way I roll. Top it with everything but the kitchen sink, whatever makes you happy.

Watch “Fire Islands by Eleanor Ford” on YouTube

This is a beautiful cookbook. Hands down the photography is absolutely gorgeous. Mrs. Ford’s stories about her early life traveling back and forth from England to Indonesia where her dad built hotels. The cuisine is delicious. I made the Nadi Goreng and the flavor was wonderful. I got this cookbook from Amazon.com.
