A Small Thanksgiving Feast

https://www.seriouseats.com/thanksgiving-for-two

Now we are a month out from Thanksgiving. Awesome! I am getting excited just thinking about it.

Here is a nice choice of menu ideas and recipes for your big day. By now I hope you have secured your bird. Regardless if it’s a chicken, turkey, or a duck make sure you get it early. For haven’s sake skip the turducken thing. I am sure you’ve hear of the turkey with a chicken and a duck wrapped inside with only dressing separating them. To be honest I don’t know anyone who could afford that. It would want to eat it. Just sounds like potential food poisoning to me.

Besides that would defeat the purpose of scaling down Thanksgiving.

15 Swiss Foods to try in Switzerland or at Home | The Planet D

https://theplanetd.com/best-swiss-foods/

I came across this article last night. It reminded me of how diverse the Swiss cuisine really is. I do have a cookbook on Swiss Cuisine. If you are in the same boat as myself and are learning more about different cuisines, this is a great one to include.

Here is what caught my eye. What Americans know as Swiss cheese isn’t Swiss at all. Yeah! That awesome cheese with holes in it isn’t really Swiss. 🤯 It blew my mind. It made me wonder how many dishes that we know as Swiss are really Swiss.

The article shares the names of dishes that actually have roots in France, Germany, and/or Austria. Here’s a tidbit of information I didn’t know about Switzerland, some of the citizens in tge Northern regions tend to speak French where as citizens in the more Southern region will also speak Italian. Yeah! I had no idea.

That reminded me of how diverse America has become. We have people from every point of the earth. They each have their own cuisines. Those who share their cuisine are much needed breathe of fresh air here. I hope y’all will enjoy the article and then explore your own community especially if you live in a city like Detroit. So many people have passed through and a lot stayed. Enjoy the cuisine and the culture.

Watch “Kroger’s This Week” on YouTube

https://youtube.com/shorts/oh1HiOh0p0E?feature=share

This week got away from me. Tuesday we got Antonia’s FSFA done. Then Friday was her campus tour. The starting college is going to be wonderful. It was refreshing to see her so happy.

This week’s Kroger walk through held some improvements. I was happy to see these. However, they were only on the  surface. As you see with the Frosted Flakes Cereal.

The frozen breakfast cases were almost bare. However, if you desire to have freezer meals for breakfast in your freezer, don’t sweat it. Here is a list of some YouTube moms I watch and they do freezer meals like nobody’s business.

Amy Maryon – mom of ten can do freezer meals to feed a crew.

Jamerrill Stewart – mom of nine has you covered. She has meal packs in her shop which contains directions for feeding a crew. Both large and small.

Kimmie Hughes – Kimmie is a mom of four. She’s In Her Apron has been a favorite of mine for some time now.

Each one of these ladies bring a lot of knowledge and experience at cooking and feeding a crew on a tight budget. There are many other ladies out there and these are just three of the ones I watch constantly.

Flan

We have covered each part of a fiesta. Except for desert. What better then Flan. It’s rich delicious and velvety. Just slice of heaven. I am a fan of flan.

Here’s a recipe for a Puerto Rican version. This is the end of National Hispanic Heritage Month. I hope y’all will enjoy these recipes and explore the history behind the cultures.

Big Mac Wrap

https://www.inspirationalmomma.com/big-mac-wraps/

If you love the Big Mac at McDonald’s you’re going to love this recipe. It has all the elements of the Big Mac which has made it popular.

With this wrap you have ground beef instead of patties. You’re already a head of the curve there alone. The usual lineup for veggies. Lettuce, tomato and pickle. Dill of course. You don’t want to up stage the sauce. Oh yeah! I think the sauce is what has made the Big Mac legendary. It’s perfect.

Bun! This is where the carb overload happens. The wrap in this one can be switched out for any tortilla you want. There’s a variety of wraps out there to be choosen from. From there sides are an open field.

A Small Thanksgiving Feast

https://www.simplywhisked.com/a-small-thanksgiving-menu/

Here we are getting closer to the big day. At this point we are closing in on the one month mark.

I really liked this post. You can take two or three items from each section to cater a Feast for your day. Also, there’s a section on making the big day special. Something I enjoy about Kimmie from She’s In Her Apron (SIHA)is she breaks down how to prep week by week.

This post has suggestions for games to setting the table. Kimmie from SIHA sets her table the night before Thanksgiving when it’s her turn to host. That’s a great idea. It’ll take one thing off of your plate.

I also use Ina Garten’s approaches. 1. Make ahead what you can. 2. Assemble something, make something, and buy something. Then you can be a guest at your own feast. Yeah! Instead of spending Thanksgiving in the kitchen making everything, make a plan and cook ahead what you can.

Another option would be to potluck the meal. Keep in mind if your only having a few friends over this will limit what you have on the table.

Just Random Thoughts

Here is this week’s random thoughts. I have included pictures from the Great Depression. History is repeating itself right before our eyes. During the twenties people bought into the stock market that never would have prior to WW I. After WW I we had the buy now pay later system start and it exploded. Your middle class was buying stocks on margin. Meaning they put up a fraction of the cost for a stock and then a broker paid the rest. If a stock cost fifty dollars the individual would pay twenty-five and the broker paid the other twenty-five. This repeated until the margin was so high that the broker and the client made a nice little profit. However, in the case where the stock lost money the client would have to pay an extra bit of money or loss their profit to the broker. It was a nice little scam. Many brokers made millions doing that.

Then came the Great Depression. As usual the White House wouldn’t acknowledge there was a problem. Kind of like now. They admitt there’s a problem untill they can clear out to avoid the fallout. However, over the last week lamestream media outlets started talking about shortages. I guess if CNN is talking about them they are real. Only people like Christian Westbrook has been talking about up coming shortages for over a year. He’s the one who got me prepping.

https://copykat.com/outback-steakhouse-dipping-sauce-bloomin-onion/

Who hasn’t had a blooming onion at Outback Steakhouse? If you haven’t had one Stephanie dose have directions to make one. Actually, when you go to the link you will see a list of recipe links.

Now let’s chat about this sauce. It’s perfect in every way. It has sweetness from the mayo and ketchup. There’s spice from the horseradish, pepper and chili powder. Oh yeah! Combine these ingredients and wow…. What a sauce! On top of that is with the recipe you can make adjustments as you see fit. This is why I love the idea of make your own take out meals. Have what you enjoy out at home and you know every ingredient in the meal.

10 Russian regions with unique local cuisines – Russia Beyond

https://www.rbth.com/russian-kitchen/334307-russian-regions-unique-cuisines

This caught my eye because of how portable a lot of these are. Seriously!. I think seeveral of these items remind me of a calzone or a pastie.

What is a pastie? A pastie is a like a sandwich only wrapped tightly in bread. From what I understand it came here to Michigan via Welsh immigrants. There’s meat potatoes seasoning.

I am going to let y’all read the article. If you grew upeating anything from this article or any article I post, please share. We’d love to read your stories about your connection with the food items. Rather its the taste or memories of your mom or grandma making whatever for you.
