Ina Garten Shares Thanksgiving Recipes This Week – PureWow

https://www.purewow.com/food/ina-garten-countdown-to-thanksgiving

Are you ready for Thanksgiving? Yeah ! It’s around the corner. I get excited about the leftover turkey sandwiches. This year I’m also making Turkey Dumplings. I going to use a badic chicken and dumplings recipe which I’ll switch turkey for chicken.

We are doong delux mashed potatoes with heavy cream and cream cheese. Lots of butter. Corn is just a staple veggie for Thanksgiving. It was always on the table growing up. Ina does a mushroom and leek stuffing. I am going for the boxed one. It’s what I ate as a kid and we both like it. Gravy is coming from a packet.

I do love Ina’s approach. Make ahead what you can. Assemble something. Make something. Buy something. I always try to make the meal. Appetizers can be assembled and/or dessert can be bought. Of course, you could flip those depending on what you can get the best deal on.

I will have one more Thanksgiving post for Wednesday.

A Small Thanksgiving Feast: Decorations

We are at the end. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Here are some things to remember.

1. Protein. Hopefully by now you have secured your turkey if you plan on seving one. Sunday or Monday you should have taken out to start the thawing process. The thawing process will depend on the size of bird you choose. Don’t forget to keep it in a cool room.

2. Side dishes. How many will you have? What are they going to be?

3. Desserts. Here’s a favorite part of the meal for everyone. Pumpkin Pie is a traditional dessert. Apple and Cherry Pies are also favorites. So what will be for you? We are going to do a simple blueberry pie.

4. Appetizers. Okay most would put this first. Not everyone does an extensive appetizer layout so I put last. Besides usually the bird is the star.

5. Entertainment. Will you have a movie going, perhaps music? What about young kids? Do you have activities for them? Otherwise you know they will cause chaos. You can download free printable activities from the net. How about a scavenger hunt with a prize being say gift card? Now let’s talk about entertainment for the grown ups. Thanksgiving is a day for parades and football. That should keep the men and small children busy. Now the teens. Boys tend to gravitate toward video games. If you have a basement, awesome. You know where they will be. Girls tend to gravitate toward creative things like makeup.

6. Decorations. Here’s a fun activity for little kids. Make hand turkeys. Dollar Tree is a fantastic source for games, plastic wear, and decorations. There’s also Big Lots, Family Dollar, and Dollar General. If you read this in Canada, I believe you have what’s called Dollar Rama. From the videos I have seen from Youtubers who visit these stores they a great source as well for inexpensive items you need.

What Will You Do?

How are you going to handle your child crying in hunger? Are you prepared to tell your child ‘I am sorry I don’t have anything for you’? Countries like Venezuela and Argentina have gotten used to super hyper inflation. That’s when your fiat currency loses its value to the point it takes a week’s wages to eat one day’s worth of calories. Venezuela has been in this boat for over a decade because their government got tunnel vision with the money oil was bringing in. Hugo Chavez focused so much on the oil revenue that he let the agriculture sector slide into disrepair. Lebanon has entered the same field as Argentina. The currency’s value is going to hell in a handbasket.

People in the UK are seeing some strange things happen. Aisles being rearranged completely. I am not talking about the usual move stuff so the peasants spend more. No! I am talking about a beer display where candy bars should be. Shelves removed to make a cereal section bigger. I have seen this trick at my local Walmart. Yesterday it was as if the management had just had enough of everything. Christmas being pushed on top of Halloween stopping only for Black Friday. Shelves empty in different sections of the grocery area.

Everytime I walk through a grocery store I am reminded of pictures on Google of the first supermarkets here in America. I am also reminded of Sergie from the Ushanka Show on YouTube. He talks about how the stores were set up in Ukraine where he grew up. If you look at black and white photos of these stores today and what Sergie described. His parents keep him and his brother fed.

I’ll ask you again, are you ready for a day when you have limited choices at the store? Are ready to handle having the military at the doors of stores to prevent fighting? Are you prepared for a time when rationing comes home to America, again? These are questions we had better start preparing for the answers to come. As a parent, there’s nothing grotesque for me to do so my daughter eats. Even though she’s 18.

Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe | Rachael Ray

https://rachaelray.com/blogs/recipes/chicken-noodle-soup

Recovering from COVID-19 is taking longer than Ihad planned. Here’s a wonderful chicken noodle soup with parsnips alongside carrots.

If you want to add more color use colored carrots. I am always amazed by the variety of colors you can get carrots in. Also add a variety of bell peppers. Again a great choice of colors.

I have found that par boiling noodles prior to adding to soup keeps the noodles together. As for seasonings, I go with salt, pepper, and garlic.

7 Middle Eastern Pantry Essentials

https://food52.com/blog/26769-middle-eastern-pantry-essentials

If you live in NYC than you are probably familiar with Sahadi’s. If you don’t then you’re in for a treat with this article. Heir to Sahadi’s Christine Sahadi Whealon takes us unto her family’s pantry and shares what she and her husband keep on hand.

Until this article I had never heard of this shop. I don’t live in NYC. However, Michigan has an area of Detroit called Dearborn which I’ve been told has some wonderful shops like this one. Mrs. Whealon also has a cookbook.

I am still recovering from COVID-19 so I am exhausted right now. Please go over and read the article.
