Scratch Kitchen & Home

Welcome!!!!

Yes, I have retitled this channel and I hope y’all enjoy it. My hopes for this channel going forward are these:

  1. Share information. Let’s share tips and tricks we have learned or were taught about stretching a budget from the beginning of a month to the end.
  2. Share books. Let’s share homemaking, cooking, canning, and leisure reading books. One exception: NOTHING POLITICAL! This channel is more of a creative outlet for me because I talk about such heavy issues on my other channel Anarchy Land.
  3. Share recipes. Share recipes to help stretch your food as far as you can. Given the current situation, we need as much information to help feed our families.

I will be doing videos as often as possible. My current life is kind of chaotic at times.

America Helping Everyone But Americans

*This is going to be a rant. Profanity will appear.*

Over the weekend, a friend of mine had a step son lose his shit and go on a two day rampage. He has various mental issues. When he got out of prison this last time he was doing okay and on medication. At some point he went off his meds and shit hit the fan is a perfect description for Saturday.

Jeri (not his actual name), started using pot vaping cartridges right off the bat. Not out 72 hrs and he’s hitting the pot. Friday, he went to his ex-girlfriend’s trailer where she and her three kids lived. The third is Jeri’s son. Jeri was going to kill her, the older two girls, and possibly her new boyfriend. (This part of the story is personal to me because Friday marks ten years since I left an abusive relationship.) Jeri didn’t know where she lived, good thing.

This brings us to Saturday, Jeri and another guy robbed a local store, shot and killed a guy for his F150 Ford. Which was stupid because the guy gave up the truck. I am sure he had a way to track it so it could be recovered. The guy with him shot and injured the passenger. The two guys, high and intoxicated, went for a nice Saturday drive which ended with them crashing the truck of their victim. They crossed from Michigan to Ohio with the possible destination being Colorado where Jeri’s paternal grandmother lives. The grandmother who had been sending Jeri money. Unfortunately the pair of geniuses only made it to Toledo where they were caught later that night. The passenger was caught, no problem. He surrendered. I guess the road trip from hell had been enough for him by eight o’clock that night. Jeri was shot because he shot at the police. Jeri will recover to serve a life sentence plus his crime rampage in Ohio has to be dealt with.

The point of this story is this, all of this was preventable. Our mental health system is a joke. We have twice the number of mentally ill people than people who play golf yet we have more damn golf courses than we have hospitals for the mentally ill. What to fuck!!!! We give billions every year to countries rather they need or deserve it, but we can’t afford to help the mentally ill. Over the past year alone we’ve given millions to Ukraine which the citizens have received zero part of. The Military Industrial Complex has received billions, and Zelensky has received so much that his mother-in-law bought a multi million dollar villa in Egypt. Maui just had one of the worst fires ever in their history. The idiot puppet in chief compared the fire to one that almost consumed his home about fifteen years ago. The citizens of Maui are getting a LOAN of $700 per household which they must repay

 Again, what the fuck!!!!

The only fix I can think of for this government is to scrape it and start over. Seriously! Let Russia bomb it back to the ocean. I don’t give a fuck.

Happy Labor Day! #GrillSafely

https://youtube.com/shorts/9mUQmg-lJQQ?si=SEGEo5sBtgEYfQAT

Tomorrow is the last major grilling holiday for those of us in the north. So here’s three simple tips for grilling safely.

1. Fire extinguishers. Keep many of them and keep them close to the grill. Don’t forget the first aid kits.

2. Water. Keep lots of water close by. Drinking, cleaning hands and your furry guest.

3. Keep dairy based salads cool. If possible get dry ice to help keep them cool.

There. Three quick easy tips to remember.

If you’re sick of the same old bird, then here’s a beautiful new bird. It’s French and it sounds delicious. Herbs de Provence is this delicious smelling combination of herbs and just heavenly. Garlic is here and proud.

What to serve with it? France is known for their veggies. Bread. Oh my God their breads. This chicken would be great with a rustic bread.

Dessert. Yes! Classic French Apple Cake sounds devine. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. This recipe does call for alcohol, but you could use apple juice or cider.

Best Fall Soup To Keep You Warm

Look at this… 👀 https://pin.it/74CNYe9

Fall is around the corner and I am excited. Temps are cooling. This is something I look forward this transition. Below will be soups that stood out to me.

MOROCCAN CARROT RED LENTIL SOUP: Our line up of seasonings are as follows: cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, paprika, and garlic. Sounds like a beautiful deep soup. There’s no meat required and honestly, it would be perfect considering the cost of meat.

SLOW COOKER GREEN ENCHILADA SOUP: This would be such a simple soup. Five ingredients is all. And your slow cooker does all the cooking.

MEATBALL SOUP with CHEESE TORTELLINI: This recipe uses frozen meatballs. HELLO! We’ve talked about having meatballs frozen ahead.

CHICKEN AND GREEN CHILE VERDE SOUP RECIPE: This is similar to the Enchilada Soup. You use pinto beans, and green chilies with green salsa.

Here are four soups that I was suprised that caught my eye.

September Meal Plan

https://www.familyfoodonthetable.com/september-meal-plan/#

What happened to August? We take from May to September off from meal planning. We do super simple quick easy meals that take minutes to fix and don’t heat the kitchen up in the summer. Because summer is hot enough right.

MEALS: Kathryn gives a vareity of meals and you can print off recipes.

MIX AND MATCH: The beauty of Kathryn’s menu is you can mix and match items. Example: there’s a meal that calls for baked chicken but you don’t have the listed side items. No problem. Take the chicken you have thawed and pull baked potatoes from one day and say corn from another.

DESSERTS: Kathryn doesn’t have these on the menu. I guess because so many families are different and have different dietary needs.

Quilting Terms For Beginners

https://modernmoonquiltstudio.com/useful-quilting-terminology-every-beginner-quilter-should-know/

This is going to be a short post.

Here’s a neat site I just came across that has quilting terms. Of course, there are explanations. I am looking forward to Fall because I am going to take a different approach to my YouTube channel Scratch Kitchen. It will be Scratch Kitchen and Home.

Making Placemats Using Modern Disappearing 9 Patch Block

https://quiltsocial.com/making-placemats-using-a-modern-disappearing-9-patch-block/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=pinterest&utm_campaign=tailwind_tribes&utm_content=tribes&utm_term=835836070_35255638_533352

I am starting to really like these placemats. Seriously! You can use fabric you havecut and/or add new cut fabric. There are certain things that are set as in no negotiating parts. Like 1/2 inch seam. Binding.

Themes…. Let’s talk about themes. Season would be nice. Soft pastel colors for Spring or warm dark colors for Fall. The usual red and green for Christmas perhaps.

NIGHTMARE TRIP TO KROGER!!! – These High Prices Are Hurting Everyone!

Danno’s video today was very informative. He hit on an issue that we are all experiencing in stores. Rising prices and anger. Anger over rising prices is rising and rightfully so. I am with you on that fully. Here’s a couple of things to remember.

1. Don’t Blame Floor Staff. What does that mean? Quite simple. The staff on the grocrey store floor doesn’t set the prices. They just put tags up. Or stock the shelves. That’s it.

2. Politicians are owned by corporations. This isn’t something I go into here. But it’s the truth. These corporate owners (like Progresso) have spent billions to get politicians they own. This way they can jack up the prices anytime they want and blame will be deflected away from them by the politicians.

With that said, try to remember that store floor staff are paying the same prices we do if they buy name brand items. Kroger offeres a 10% employee discount and fuel points when the employees buy Kroger brand items. But if they buy Tyson air fried chicken, they pay what Tyson wants.
