This is insane. I honestly don’t know how independent truckers are going to be able to stay on the road. Diesel $5.13 and it’s only May. We still have june to August for traveling months to go.

This is just one way to put a SHTF pack together. If you decide to do one know there’s a variety of ways to put them together. It depends on your family.
Homemade Baby Formula
With the shortages and recalls of baby formula. On top of the fact we send millions of pounds of formula to the southern border plus what we are sending to Eastern Europe, it shouldn’t be a surprise that we are at risk of running out.
The government has come out and said moms who use formula SHOULDN’T MAKE their own. I say bullshit! Here’s a link to directions to make your own formula. When you read over it, you’ll understand why I choose this recipe. It’s balanced nutritionally as far as I can see.
If you’re a pediatrician nutritionist (or in the pediatric medical business), please feel free to add comments to this post to help moms using formula.

Pices are going through the roof. The shredded cheese I usually buy went up two dollars. Seriously! It was a shock when I saw this. Dear God! Gas was $4.39…
This on top of the baby formula shortage.
Palestinian Stuffed Cabbage
This recipe is in memory of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. She was a Palestinian journalist workinh for Al Jazeera. Shireen had exposed crimes committed by the Israeli government. While covering a refugee camp in Jenin, she was murdered wearing the gear with press written on it clearly.
My late mom made stuffed cabbage. Yuk! I couldn’t stand it growing up. It had rice in it and it was just weird. Then the tomato sauce. No thank you.
Had she made thiis version I probably would’ve devoured it. It has all the classic Arabic spices of allspice, nutmeg, sumac, turmeric, caraway, cardamom, and a spice mix called Baharat. If you haven’t smelled Baharat you are missing out. It’s delicious.
Traditional lamb or veal would be used. However, back in reality where that’s not affordable. Just Jas used ground beef. I am sure ground turkey or chicken would work. However, I have ground pork. I know… I know Muslims don’t eat pork. My saving grace is I am not Muslim.
Let’s talk cabbage. While my mom used regular green cabbage, and I am sure you could, Jas recommended either savoy or napa cabbage. Process is the same. Peel cabbage, blanche and trim the hard core off of them. Then fill with meat mixture. Like my late mom Jas simmers them in the oven. Jas does something my mom didn’t. Jas uses slice tomato and eggplant between each cabbage roll. Of course, there’s a sauce with broth base as opposed to tomato based.
I hope you will consider making this. I will be planning on making it in the Fall. I don’t do a lot of oven baking in the summer. It’s hot and I don’t like to run the air conditioner if I don’t have to.
Recipes Each State is Known For
America has 50 states and they each have a special recipe they’re known for. Of course, South Carolina is known for Red Velvet Cake. It’s insanely delicious. New Mexico is Beef Empanada. Oklahoma has a crock pot Taco Soup.
Texas comes with a less than impressive tamale casserole. I say less than impressive because I expected chili. Texas known for chili and beef ribs. South Dakota is known for tater tots. Homemade tater tots. Yeah!
Pennsylvania comes in with Sex On the Beach. That surprised me. Pennsylvania is known for conservative Amish. Tennessee got cornbread. Y’all go over and read the article and see what your state is known for.
The Best Clam Dip
Look at this… 👀 https://pin.it/4DbGA0E
This clam dip recipe is delicious. Seriously!
The saltiness of the Worcester sauce with the slightly sweetness of the clams. I used garlic poweder. How much to use? Depends on your taste. I use salt and pepper with celery seed. Cream cheese mixed together. If your not a fan of raw green onions, that’s not a problem. They blend in.
Let it set in the fridge overnight. So good. Seriously! I went through this dip in twenty four hours.
Rising Prices and Shortages
We are seeing the prices going up again. We are facing electricity shortages. And horrible weather which is going to impact the exporting of commodities going through the year. And unfortunately, the possibility of WW III. When we look at prices in the stores we are seeing them go up. During last week’s walkthrough of Kroger, I noticed that Kroger’s brand of pasta has gone up to $1.23. They had a sale of 3/$4. Walmart’s pasta is still $.92 however, it was sparse. This is insane. That’s a $.23 jump.
China is having a different problem of course. They are keeping their citizens hostage in their apartments. Apparently, they are having another COVID-19 outbreak. The videos coming out are disturbing. Which reminds me that back in the fall they were told to stock up on their food. At least a years worth. Actually, that was meant for the provence governors. It did get out to the public. It was like Black Friday on speed.

Watch “10 Ways You Should Be Stocking Your Pantry! Practical Shopping Habits” on YouTube
Kimmie always has great ideas for food storage. I’ve learned a great deal from her over the years. Kimmie shares how she and husband Derrick use mylar bags.
If I were going to pick one tip from this video as a favorite it would be budget. Learn how to budget your food funds. Do you shop weekly, twice monthly, or once a month? I try to do a once a month major shopping and then fill in trips for veggies and maybe bread.
My personal tip I would give is know what you (and your family) eat. What are your go to meals? What’s the one meal you have twice a week if possible? Once a week meal? And what’s the meal you eat for nostalgic reasons? Once you know this keep a rotating stock to make these meals.
Kimmie talls about using sales. Absolutely! Take advantage of ten for ten sales. Enjoy them while you can. Store brand pasta at Kroger is $1.33 now. Walmart brand is $.92 but can be hard to find. So it’s that time y’all. It’s time to learn how to mske pasta at home.
What tips are you going to implement? Let’s share and learn from each other.
