This article is a wonderful representation of Burmese Cuisine. Think you don’t know where Burma is. Wrong! Today we know it as Myanmar. Yep! The Southeast Asian country that had an uprising by their military a two or four years ago.
It’s tucked between India and China. With Thailand and Laos for neighbors as well. So it shouldn’t be a surprise to you that this cuisine is rich and delicious. The flavor profile can be spicy and sweet or salty and sour. Noodles are included and yes, fried rice has an open invitation to a Burmese table.
Meats range from land based to the ocean. Tofu has a seat as well. Favor veggies! No problem. This article includes a beautiful eggplant dish that looks filling enough ao you don’t miss meat.
Desserts are abundant. And teas are welcomed. Curries have a place on the table. They are a reminder of the Muslim communities in Burma. Like Thai Cuisine, there’s a vareity of items you probably didn’t know existed. Coconut milk, wster, and cream are used in Burmese Cuisine.
Rudy aka Alaska Prepper is awesome. I have learned so much from him. It’s late and I just realized I didn’t post today. I will do a longer post tomorrow.
Who controls the food supply controls the people; who control the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world.
HENRY KISSINGER
Here we go again. We have the secretary-general of the UN saying the world is at risk of a famine because of the situation between Russia and Ukraine. I’m sure shutting everything down in 2020 had nothing to do with the situation.
We’ve seen prices go through the roof again. And, Thursday I posted a video showing limits (aka ration) of certain items. I will share those pictures and videos with you here. There is this move to make the crisis of food shortages political. There is a certain element that is politically related. The decisions, which you and I have to live with the consequences of, can’t be separated from food vs politicians. It’s not that simple. Also, if food shortages weren’t making life miserable enough, there are talks with (MISO) Midcontinent Independent System Operator is talking about ‘controlled outages’. In other words, you and I are going to have a very long summer. Let’s focus on what we can do to help ourselves and our loved ones. Encourage them to put a little something aside if they can. If they can’t financially then try to be ready to help them where you can. As for electric outages, get used to not having an air conditioner. How? Leave your windows open during the day. Have fans running. We have a small ac but we rarely ever use it. It just costs too damn much.
Sad news! Some chain grocers are deciding to close low preforming stores. About four years ago I seen where Walmart was closing some express stores because of low profits.
Recently there’s been numerous stores announcing closures. I have to wonder why the closures are happening now? Financial crisis. Lack of products on the shelves. There are still the containers on ships in the Pacific. Over a year later they are still unemptied. No one talls about them because they are out of a line of sight. You know the old adage: out of mind. If society doesn’t see something; it doesn’t exist.
Now we have a dilemma with baby formula. Why isn’t it in the stores? We know it’s being made. We also have seen the articles about the government buying it before it’s packaged. So where to hell is it? These are the questions we should be demanding from the companies and then the government.
This soup has feed Russia’s for many generations. Through good times and bad. From oppression under Tsars to starvation during the Revolution. The ingredients in this soup are a little odd. Sauerkraut! Of course, you could serve sauerkraut on the side.
I can see why this soup has lasted for so long. You can change out the veggies as seasons change. This is a basic Shchi. From this recipe I am sure you can find a variety of ways to make it.
The Meijer’s in Frenchtown Michigan has been in a state of being remodeling. so things have been relocating stuff every time you go there. It’ll drive you crazy.
The produce area is beautiful and well stocked. However, other areas weren’t so great.
Alea has everything you needed for doing pantry development and maintaining it. Alea has a variety of printables free. That’s hard to say about most sites. Some will say free printables but there’s catches everywhere.

Here’s a list of items with rising prices this week. Chicken is the main one we are going to discuss here.
The cost of the bird itself is going up to the point most people are looking to start raising meat birds. Of course, these little critters are a two for one deal. First you get eggs and second you get meat if you have too many roosters sooner than you’ll get meat from the hens. Now third thing you get from chickens is entertainment. Ed aka Prepper Nurse 1 talks about how entertaining his chickens are.
Beef and pork. Cows can be fun at times and they can be stubborn. Cows have this herd mentality. Something I learned while watching Alaska: The Last Frontier from Otto Kilcher is that cows can be stbborn, but when faced with the threat of being alone they will roll with the herd. Now this is a general issue with cows. They don’t like being alone. Cows are a multi purpose creature. They provide milk with cream. These two items make butter and cheese. Than there’s the dreaded duty of turning them to meat. Pigs are entertaining. Then they become bacon.
Cooking oil. This is essential. It’ll last for a long time if you store it unopened in a cool dark place. Opened you have about a year. Which is why I have taken a liking to lard. I know it’s not the healthiest thing on earth but it’s better than say shortening. First what to hell is in the shortening? I don’t know. On top of that you can get a ten pound bucket of lard for the same price as four ounces of coconut oil. Do the math!
I AM NOT GETTING POLITICAL HERE! EASTERN EUROPE I AM REFERENCING IS RUSSIA AND UKRAINE!
Bread and wheat. Given the situation in Eastern Europe it’s understandable that the price of these items are going up. Eastern Europe is the main producer of wheat and wheat oroducts used to make bread. My advice is learn how to make bread or alocate a portion of your budget for it.
My plans going forward will be this: Once the bread we buy goes over a dollar I will start making it and freezing it so we can stretch it out as long as possible. I have chicken in three forms and tina that can be used in between. I recently purchased canned clams. Those will be used as well. Not just for the dip I shared a week ago. But for clam chowder as well.
Shop your home. This is something Kimmie from She’s In Her Apron talks about all the time. Look at what you have then make weekly or monthly meals around that so you aren’t spending as much time and money in stores. Yesterday I postrd about the rising cost of gas. It’s insane y’all. So having a well stocked pantry is now a matter of finanical gain as well as time.
What are you (and your family) doing to save money and tome at the pump? Let’s share and help each other.
I am sharing another article on Pilmeni and Samsas not so much because of the recipe but the story behind it.
Svetlana’s family was very brave to leave Eastern Europe after the Soviet Union supposedly collapsed. Slveta and her family had to pratice their Jewish traditions in private. Her father was a Rabbi. I am sure it was very difficult. Since all most religions were outlawed.
