Back To School Lunches

https://thegirlonbloor.com/healthy-bento-lunch-box-recipes-5-ways/

Week two. We are on to lunch. I have been sering a vareity of Youtubers talking about the situation schools are having with their lunch programs. And securing what’s needed in general. I’ve also seen Youtubers talking about what will and won’t be allowed in lunch boxes. So check with your local school.

Here are some healthy lunches to start with. As I said above make there are no allergy issues that could prevent your child from having the lunch you send with them. These boxes have a balanced lunch. And they are quite tasty. Take one day a week and put them together. While you’re at make your own lunches and your spouse’s. This would be a good way for you to eat healthy as a family even if you aren’t together.

Pizza craving is answered here. Turkey and cheddar. Hummus your thing. No problem covered.

Umamicart: Your favorite Asian groceries delivered

https://umamicart.com/

Asian Cuisine site number two. I am reviewing sites to order Asian Cuisine items.

Okay. This one is convenient and easy to use. They have a great variety of items from food to cookware. Chop sticks and steamer. Beverages and sauces with grains. Noodles and rice.

While Umamicart does have some items Just Asian Food site doesn’t. Next Monday I will review a which I did just use and I am very happy with. Weee!

MYOTO: Cracker Barrel Chicken and Dumplings

https://ilovemyrecipes.com/cracker-barrel-chicken-and-dumplings/

I made this for dinner. I jave say I only have two complaints. One us there’s not much flavor. Two no veggies.

A lot of chicken and dumpling recipes have peas and carrots with celery and onion. This recipe doesn’t. So next time I will add onions, celery, peas and carrots. I may also select to use mixed veggies. I like the bright colors of the frozen veggies.

Usually, the Cracker Barrel uses square dumplings. I rolled them up into a ball. This made them easier to eat and cook. I grew up with both and I prefer small ball form of dumplings.

Seasonings are simple salt, pepper and garlic powder. These are good but nothing else to go along with them is bland. Next I’ll use these and a combination of a different type of herbs and spices.

Watch “Weekly Grocer Walk Through: Walmart” on YouTube

Here’s what we are seeing here in Southeast Michigan. Things were hit or miss. The thing that concerned me is the absences of store brand items. It’s as if we’re going to be forced to buy name brand.  Now is the time to stock up on things like like store brand instant mashed potatoes.

Two or three days ago a grain silo in Pendleton Oregon burnt down. There’s nothing in the stories that makes sense.

Creamy Garlic Chicken Breasts

https://cafedelites.com/creamy-garlic-chicken-breasts/

Awesome! A whole head of garlic might sound like too much. It’s not. When you roast garlic it gets a deep sweetness to that’s awesome.

What to serve with this awesome chicken? Steamed or grilled veggies. Rice or pasta salad.

Dessert. Sky is the limit…

Hot Chocolate

https://princesspinkygirl.com/10-yummy-hot-chocolate-recipes/

Yep! It’s that time of year. Time for hot chocolate in every form. Every nation has it’s own version.

Let’s start with dark chocolate. As my eyes glaze over I am dreaming about dark chocolate in hot chocolate. Rich deep flavor and so thick. Oh my God! Using high quality chocolate is called for here. Milk chocolate. This chocolate is sweeter than the dark.

Mexican chocolate is devine. Cinnamon with chili and a little bit of sugar. Just heavenly. European hot chocolate is rich and luxurious.

White chocolate isn’t really chocolate in that it doesn’t have the cocoa solids. It’s the mill solids and fats. However that doesn’t mean it’s not good. This actually gives white chocolate a flexibility that the other chocolates don’t have. It can be mixed with fruit yeilding another product. Like raspberry hot chocolate. Yes you can mix fruit with the chocolate based hot chocolate. However, you lose some the fruit’s flavor to me.

Cambodian Hot Pot

https://annledo.com/blog/cambodian-hot-pot-ya-hon/#/

Ann Lee Do shares her family’s traditional hot pot. When winter comes knocking this is how Ann Lee handles it. In the article she goes into detail about how to make the soup and equipment needed.

Here we are going to look at the side items. Pastas like lo mein noodles and rice noodles. Veggies like mushrooms, boc choy cabbage, or greens. Meats brisket, pork, chicken and seafood. Meatballs, yes! Dumplings make an appearance.

What makes these hot pots so wonderful is sharing them with people you enjoy spending time with.

Just Asian Food

https://justasianfood.com/

The next three Mondays I am going to review Asian Cuisine supplies. I am starting with Just Asian Food has a nice variety.

You can’t get fresh meats or produce. That’s a down side. Also no household items for cleaning. My third site has all that. However, sauces, spices, mixes, or snacks can be puchased here. I get stuff through Amazon, but Amazon can be a pain to deal with at times.

Just Asian Food does offer a very organized method of searching. By category or region.

Back To School Meal Planning

https://www.itsalwaysautumn.com/20-make-ahead-breakfasts-for-busy-school-mornings.html

Can you believe it is time for the kiddies to go back to school or start their first semester of college?

I just got back from taking a friend to Walmart and they had Halloween candy out already. NO! 🤬 I am not ready for Halloween. I ‘m still working on pre-winter inventory. I’ve been sidelined with a head cold which settled in my right ear.

The next four Sundays I will post easy freezer meals to help us all ease back into the school week swing. This week it’s breakfast. How many times do your kiddies get up and have cereal for breakfast. More than I care to count. There’s a reason cereal is a billion dollar business.

I know it’s convenient to have pancakes, waffles, or other breakfast items in the freezer. Why not get one box of each item and set down with your family to evaluate what it us about these items they like? Then make them yourselves. Have a higher quality item cheaper.

100 Crockpot Soups

https://www.prudentpennypincher.com/crockpot-soup-recipes/

Prudent Penny Pincher is a site for moms. This site isn’t so much a single person operating it as a collaborative effort.

Now on to the soups. This post has so mamy soups inspired by pretty much every point on the earth covered. There classic favorites like Chicken Noodle and Chili.

The soup that called to me was the Chicken Pie Soup. Yeah! What to hell is this? It’s chicken pot pie in soup form. All the chicken, vegetables and creamy sauce without the crust. I make a similar soup with leftover Thanksgiving Turkey and I serve it over stuffing. So good!
