Retro Dinner Party Ideas

I came across this post from Taste Of Home and it hit me. Who says we have to have the Norman Rockwell Christmas Dinner. With all honesty, I wasn’t sure what I was going to post. Then I saw this and hot dog.

This post has everything you would need to have an inexpensive dinner at Christmas. I know there are people who won’t be able to afford a full ‘traditional meal’. Perhaps it’s time to change that. Below will be some ideas for a theme dinner party for Christmas.

HOME ALONE: Yeah! In Home Alone Kevin got a cheese pizza, pepsi (or coke a cola) and ice cream super sundea. Kevin is left home alone when his family goes to France. A second option is a dinner inspred by France. There’s two options.

CASABLANCA: This is a classic movie. It’s starts in Fance and ends up in Morocco. Here’s two countries. How about a Moroccan Tagine with a French Cake.

DR. ZHIVAGO: Here’s one last theme. This was the last epic movie MGM did that was a huge hit. While the movie was about how they lived post-Bolshevik Revolution, here’s some ideas for a dinner they would’ve been able to eat. Protein would be whatever you could hunt. Veggies would be whatever was at the store or you could grow. Mashed potatoes. Dessert could be simple Berry Pavlova.

Here’s three suggestions. I hope you enjoy.

100 Grandma’s Recipes

Look at this… 👀 https://pin.it/74ryhk0

Here are a hundred recipes that are Grandma approved. Of course, I am not going to review all of them. Just the ones that stood out to me. I do encourage you to go to the link above.

GRANDMA’S SWEDISH MEATBALLS: These are delicious. I am sure these are delicious. I am sure there will be some Swedish grandmas who flip in their grave at this hack: store bought meatballs. Kroger’s has them fully cooked for $5.99 or Farm Rich has them flame broiled at $6.99. This is one thing I would pay the extra money for the flame broiled. Mashed potatoes or noodles which ever you like.

LIME & SPICE PEACH COBBLER: I love peach cobbler. This sounds delicious. Imagine the peach cobbler with some serious attitude.

SPICED PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE: I really enjoy this cake. The problem is I am the only one. It’s hard to find a single slice.

SANTEA FE CHILI: This sounds delicious. Lot of seasonings. With V8 juice instead of regular tomato juice. Lot of protein with ground meat and beans. What to top it with? Sour cream and cheese.

OLD FASHIONED PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES: Who doesn’t love these?

GREAT GRANDMA’S ITALIAN MEATBALLS: There’s nothing like homemade meatballs. That’s an art

These are the things that stood out to me.

Taco Bell Nacho Fries – CopyKat Recipes

https://copykat.com/taco-bell-nacho-fries/

This is the newest fave. Nacho fries. We have tried rhem and they’re okay. I wouldn’t pay what Taco Bell wants when I could make them at home.

Stephanie Manely to the rescue. Once again our girl has cracked the code for what makes these fries ad worthy. The Nacho Seasoning. Potatoes with nacho (or taco seasoning) is actually a good idea. With a spicy cheese sauce. Taco Bell also turned these fries into the full nacho experience. Let’s look at the possibilities.

MEAT: Taco Bell took Nacho Bell Grande and replaced the chips with fries. Oh yeah! Ground meat taco (or nacho) seasoning.

TOPPINGS: Taco Bell is on the right track. Sour cream, spicy cheese sauce, and salsa. Green onions and cilantro. They also use guacamole. If you like guacamole.

We haven’t tried the Nacho Fries like this but I do think I’ll play around with this recipe for seasonings and recommended fries first.

Coookies!!!!🎄

Have you started your Christmas baking. I haven’t. We planned on putting our decorations up the first weekend of December. Here we are almost half way through the month and still no decorations.

This post hopefully inspires you to bake. Thursday is going to be fudge day because Antonia wants to take some to work Sunday. I guess at some point we’ll get to the cookies. Last year I was recovering from COVID-19 and this year I don’t really know.

Well actually, I do know. Over my lifetime I have seen Christmas get so commericalized that it’s lost all real meaning.

Watch “Stainless Steel Cookware Launch with Discount Code” on YouTube

Mandy at Souped Up Recipes has launched her cookware line. Granted she has had a Wok and a Ceramic Pot she uses out for a while. Also, chopsticks. So this pot and pan set was just the next awesome thing from her.

In her video, Mandy shows the little things about her line that is different from other ones. Mandy went into this project from a home cook perspective. This set is pricy. However, the little things she tended to that makes a difference.

20 Delicious Winter Comfort Food Recipes

https://acultivatednest.com/winter-comfort-food-recipes/

Here are twenty meals that will warm you (and your family) up. Below will be the ones that stood out to me.

EASY MAC AND CHEESE: Mac and Cheese are always a favorite.

CHICKEN CORN CHOWDER: This has a lot of potential. Change seasonings to the area of the world you like.

CROCK POT CHILI MAC AND CHEESE: This sounds great. I would say leave this as is.

These meals would be great coming in from the cold.

Future of Shortages

In 2020, COVID-19 caused people to go absolutely bananas. Toilet paper flew off the shelves. Food not so much. Here’s a thought; nothing in means nothing going out. I know it’s a crazy thought.

This article shares items which will be shortages and outages of. Rice is one of the items due to weather chaos. Flour, oats, and other grains for obvious reasons. Fruit farms had horrible season. Dear God in heaven. Certain veggies had the same experience.

I will be doing videos of the empty shelves and shortages after the New Year’s Day. I want to be fair to the employees of stores.

Homemakers Essentials

I haven’t done a post on this in a year. I think. It could be longer. I honestly don’t know because the year has gone by so fast.

Below is a post by Emily the Mid * Century Modern Mommy. She has a site where you can get advice from someone with twenty years of experience in homemaking. Yes! Emily has a Coaching program that is available but not required to access printable information on her site. That is appreciated greatly. Because I don’t have $600 for her coaching program. Yeah! I don’t fault her for charging.

Emily also has sample menus from the thirties up to the fifties. These are interesting to read. Cream of cabbage soup. I’ll pass, thank you very much. I remember in my 1954 edition of Better Homes and Gardens cookbook there are menus and two sections to help homemakers setup and manage a home. I do agree with Emily that women of the earlier years did a better job at deep cleaning their homes compared to now.

Christmas Foods From A Century Ago

Look at this… 👀 https://pin.it/4lVUK4i

I am getting more and more nostalgic as I get older. I enjoy seeing what people used to have for holiday meals. Compared to now. There was something in this article that caught my eye. FRUITCAKE!

My late Grams (my maternal grandmother) used to send us a box of Christmas treats every year about the second week of December. In this box of goodness was coolies, fudge, divanity, and furitcake. This was your old school door stop cake. This was bathed in Brandy.

Yeah! This fruit cake had so much Brandy the post works would be drunk from handling the box. 😂🤣😅 It was good once you got past the Brandy. I miss it.
