Happy Thanksgiving 2019

Let’s start with naming something we are thankful for: Me, it would be a roof over our heads and food on the table for three meals. My daughter would be FOOD! Yep! That simple. Of course, she’s thankful for her family and pets, but mostly food. 

The plan for today is to cook the turkey parts. Remember 170 and 175 F for your bird. Thank you FoodNetwork.com…. I don’t stuff my bird. That just doesn’t sound appealing to me. I don’t like Emergency Rooms on top of that. I serve dressing on the side. The bird went in at ten and I am planning to put the Candied Sweet Potatoes in at 11:30 so they can get warmed and the marshmallows can get cooked. At 12 the other sides will go in. Corn will be heated on the stove. 

The Ultimate Bean Dip got scratched. For something bought, Antonia bought two dips from Kroger. A Mexicali Dip. It’s Southwestern spicy and French Onion. We also have a block of cheese that can be cut up and served with crackers if we wish. I will be doing video clips to check-in and show our meal as it comes together. I doubt I will ever cut a turkey up like a chicken because it’s a larger bird and the bones where awful to cut through.

Thanksgiving 2019 Day Four

Here we go y’all, the final push until tomorrow. I hope y’alls cooking is going well. Please feel free to post below and let’s share ideas with each other. That is the great thing about these platforms compared to sites with chefs. The music I was listening to is by Michael Monroe. You can’t really hear it on the video because I turned the volume down. My plan for tomorrow is this: Cook the bird with white meat pieces together and dark pieces together.  Once the bird is almost done I will put the sides in to warm them up. Except for the sweet potatoes which I will have to put the marshmallows on it. As I go through the day I will be doing short video clips to share with yall how our plates look.

Thanksgiving 2019 Day Three

Alright y’all, we are into day three of our Thanksgiving countdown to the final Thanksgiving of this decade. Today we checked the Turkey one last time. It is dethawing at a safe pace. Placed I added some ice in the canner for it. At this point, I just want to keep a stable temp and it’ll be done by tomorrow. 

Side number two is candied sweet potatoes with pecans. OMG! These are going to be delicious. Thursday I will add the marshmallows on it when I bake it off. I had to use molasses because I forgot to mix the sugar and molasses together yesterday. This was an opportunity to show another way to produce brown sugar. Remember the less molasses you use the lighter it will be. I personally like dark brown sugar. 

Tomorrow the final day will be more content because I will be doing more and Antonia will be home so the cat can bug her. Actually, she is going to do the bean dip, she just doesn’t know yet. Yeah! This was last-second decision as two seconds ago. I forgot to clear the white off for today’s task and realized I didn’t do the bean dip. There we go. That is life for you. Also, you will notice above that I put dethaw in bold because I have been saying unthaw and it should be dethaw. Turkey brain. Lastly, I will be doing mini cherry pies. I will give a link to that video.

Thanksgiving 2019 Day Two

We are three days away from the final Thanksgiving of this decade. WOW! I can’t believe another decade is almost over. Here we are getting ready for the biggest feast day of the year…

Over the next couple of days, I am going to share how I will be lightening up my load by breaking up across four days. Yesterday we took to turkey out of the freezer to unthaw in water. Set it aside then secured the lid. Okay! I had to do that part off of the camera. Today, we checked on the turkey and dressed up the dressing. I used homemade stock and fancy butter. No, I am not kidding… The first time I bought the butter it was on sale and I thought why not. I went to buy Friday and it was back at the shockingly horrible price of $6.99. I peeled my jaw off of the floor and moved back to the Kerry Gold. It was marked up as well. So, I got to blocks of the Private Selection French Butter. Cheaper at $2.49, now this is the butter I use for simple uses. I just like it better. While we were at Wal-Mart Saturday I got my Kerry Gold Butter at $3.40 a block. 

Anyway, tomorrow we will check the bird one last time before Wednesday and assemble one side and maybe the dip. I am debating about doing the dip tomorrow or Wednesday. How are y’all coming with your Thanksgiving preps? Please share it below.

Thanksgiving 2019

This is the last Thanksgiving of this decade. It went by so fast. I hope you find this plan to be useful and work for you. I will be including links below to Whippowillow where I came across a video showing how to cook a turkey in 1 and ½ hours instead of 4 to 6 as we usually have to wait. 

Below will be links that I am going to use for this years meal. I will be doing daily videos on what I am doing on that particular day. Last year I cooked Thanksgiving for the first time in my life. I cooked a small chicken and this plan worked beautifully. I will never stray from it. I remember how stressed out my late mom would be every year at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. The cooking she did was good, but it seemed overwhelming. Because it was. She made everything she had to do from scratch and some of it she bought. 

Here is a list of what I am assembling: Dressing, Mini Cherry Pies (except dough), and Cheese with crackers. Keep in mind I already made the pie filling and canned it. So I just have to make the dough. This is where canning comes into play and makes life so much easier. 

Here is what I am making: Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Candied Sweet Potatoes, and pie dough. 

Here is what I am buying: King’s Hawaiian Rolls. 

That’s it. Not bad. Each day I will make a side and check the bird to make sure it’s unthawing. Here is my plan for each day:

Today – Take the bird out and place in Presto canner to unthaw.

Monday – Check bird and then make the dressing.

Tuesday – Check bird and make Candied Sweet Potatoes. 

Wednesday – Break turkey down like you would a chicken and marinade it for twenty-four hours. Make pies and Ultimate Bean Dip.

Final Thanksgiving Count Down!

Okay, the final on of this decade.

Tomorrow’s video will start Thanksgiving 2019 countdown and I am beyond excited to invite y’all along.

I will go through the day by day plan. And I will be taking y’all along as I do each side. We will check the turkey’s unthawing progress.

I recently seen a video of a lady making a juicy bird in 1 and 1/2 hours. I will Look that video up so you can go and watch it.

An Event in Monroe Michigan

Yesterday there was a shooting in the complex where we live. IT WAS NOT A STAGED EVENT! I want to make that clear. There are so many events where we see what looks like people shot and the next day we see video clips of them in a trailer afterwards talking on the phone like nothing happened. Because nothing happened. This is a shame that these events are used to justify gun control.

Anyway, this wasn’t one of those. There was two officers shoot and released to their families to recover. The tenant was taken to Toledo Ohio for surgery. He is secured by law enforcement. Where did this start? How did it escalate to the point the tenant actually thought it was okay to shoot human beings? I can answer the first question easy. The tenant has been a pain in the butt to maintenance employees. This happened to be the day when pest control was scheduled to come out and spray. The tenant didn’t want the guy from pest control in his apartment. The tenant threatened the maintenance guy. The maintenance guy called police finally. Once the police got here things went downhill fast. I am used to police being here. I don’t even bat an eye when they arrive. 

Yesterday was different because it ended in a shooting. The tenant opened fire on two officers hitting them in the leg. They returned fire hitting him three places from what I was told. The second question isn’t so easy to answer. We have a society where we have devalued life to the point that not thinks twice about assaulting someone who is clearly handicapped. In large cities there are abortion clinics on about every block. And we are allowed to do a post-birth abortion in some states. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that people think it’s acceptable to shoot at other human beings. Mass shootings are used to push agendas for gun control and to overturn laws like what Oklahoma just passed a Constitutional Carry law which allows the residents to carry as the second amendment intended. 

The question should be, do we have Red Flag Laws or do we have people management. I say the second. Granted there are so many people who carry and never fire a gun at anyone ever in their lives. Why punish them? Why should you get to decide if I carry or not? I haven’t committed a crime. I don’t have a serious mental illness. People with serious mental illness are a bigger danger to themselves than anyone. There are some people who shouldn’t be among the population. They are a danger to everyone. I get that. The Red Flag Laws right now are too vague to used properly. Tighten them up and then use them where and when needed. 

So, what do you think? What is the answer? Do we trash the second amendment or not? I look forward to your answers. Let’s start a conversation. I am going to take a couple of days to just process what happened right across the parking lot from me. Seriously, I can look out my living room window and see everything.

1940’s Potato Bowl

Okay, I don’t know if they had the KFC potato bowl thing then but here is how it probably would’ve looked like if they had. Use leftovers! That is another thing that makes this dinner so awesome. If you have leftover chicken, mashed potatoes, corn (we didn’t use it) gravy, and cheese this is a great way to use them. 

In your bowl, layer potatoes, chicken, gravy, corn, and cheese. Heat until cheese is melted. Then enjoy. It is awesome and you can use it as a way to get your fridge cleared out by using everything. Your kids will like as well. 

Today is a soup I am not sure about what kind of soup though.
