That Was No Hand Towel

This was a cute story by Dorothy Paterick from Shawano Wisconsin. Mrs. Paterick talked about a day when a Maytag salesman came by to sell a washing machine to her parents. While demonstrating the merits of the machine he washed the sheets. When the salesman was done he reached down and grabbed what appeared to be a towel. It was Mrs. Paterick’s mother’s bloomers.

We Had Everything But Money was a wonderful book. It is a collection of wonderful stories from people who lived through the worst ever economic crash this country had seen. I would recommend it to anyone… And yes, I found another book about survival during this period I plan on getting called

Food Shortage Friday H5N8 Bird Flu

For this week I am going to cover the H5N8 Bird Flu and how it will affect the food sources across Europe, The Arabic Peninsula, Asia, and North America. These are the main chicken-eating areas. (Keep in mind I am putting Eastern Europe and Western Europe together with Scandinavia.)

*I am NOT saying this is where H5N8 started. Or created!*

There was a culling of chickens because of H5N8 in Saudi Arabia. Chickens are a frequently eaten protein there along with beef and a variety of meats allowed by The Halal Diet. I by no means am an expert on their diet I had to go through google to find it. Below is a site that will give what they are allowed to eat. Amazingly, the only thing excluded is pork. This bird flu could limit their diet if it spreads to other avian protein sources like turkeys. That would be devastating. Should this virus get into wild migrating birds, we are talking about a worldwide catastrophe. The good thing is they have caught a case in the capital of Riyadh. They have isolated the case.

Now think about if they had they not isolated the one case. Had it spread across the world. Is it a possibility? Yes. It is. They are going to replace us as the number one poultry shipper. Soon they are going to be a source for China soon. China is busy culling its poultry because of the Novel Coronavirus 2019 bioterrorism which has been unleashed on them. Now according to Success Farming and Reuters’ Sybille de La Hamaide, there are cases in the German State of Brandenburg. This H5N8 is slowly becoming a worldwide problem.

According to the European Center for Disease Control, there have been a number of outbreaks of H5N8 since the beginning of January. And it is steadily moving across Europe as the link to a map I will put below. Will this affect us here in America? Yes. It’s not if but when it affects us. Well go to this link and run your own search for your state and be prepared…  https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts

Bottom line: This is a war on our food and us as a whole population. Think about everything that has been going on across the world. Then look at the timing of these diseases. Without a doubt, this is a war on us via our food system.

Thursday Sales

It’s time for our weekly sales. I am going to go through them for my area in Southeast Michigan and I will provide links so you can check out the sales in your area and see where you want to go if you don’t have these stores in your area.

This week’s sales are all about Valentine’s Day. The second most commercialized day of the year.

Aldi’s

Asparagus is $1.69 per one-pound bag. Not bad. They have a beautiful choice of flowers. And that’s the end of that. So sad this week.

Kroger

Kroger has a 3/$11 sale on their twelve-packs of Verner’s, Coke, and Pepsi. They have the Bistro salads at 3/$10. Sargento Natural Cheese Slices $2.99Ea. With Card. Sargento has a good variety of cheese to choose from. At $2.99 compared to the usual $3.49, I say load up if you can. Last week they had post cereal on sale this week is general mills at $1.79. I am not impressed with the prices for their meat sales.

Meijer

Meijer came through this week with a 10/$10 and the 11th item free on 1,500 items. It’s time to add to your shtf food supply. Some of the stuff is produce so enjoy that stuff now. Again, I am not impressed with meat prices.

Wal-Mart

I don’t know what to say…. The price of meat is horrible. Wal-Mart does have a good choice of Valentine’s Day gifts. You can load up on the processed foods by Banquet for $1.24 for the small meals. Great! Nothing says I love you like a quadruple bypass. So just skip the food and go for a car battery. Something that will actually do some good for that special someone.

Croissant Pizza

Alright, y’all! Here is a pizza I did this morning that I had planned on doing last night for dinner. I have gone back and re-read numerous recipes on Croissant Pizzas. I did the crust right. I will still par-bake the crust the next time I make it. After trying to get it off of the pan I do think that is a better option for me.

Here is a link to do this pizza the way I should have done it. The next time I make this pizza, I think I will par-bake the crust and then dress it. https://centslessdeals.com/crescent-roll-pizza/#wprm-recipe-container-104004
