Russian TYPICAL Hard Discount Supermarket Tour: Svetofor

Russell is in a region of Russia just outside of Moscow. This is a very interesting video. You will name brand products that we’ve been told in the West have left Russia.

All the companies we westerners have been told left Russia are still there: Coke, Pepsi, Kit Kat, Lays and yes, Pringles. You know, ‘once you pop you can’t stop’. Yeah! Coronia Beer, has a large display. They have Cascade Dishwasher Pods. Wines from Germany and European Union. Beers from everywhere.

33 Russian Food Recipes & Famous Russian Cuisine

Here are 33 incredible Russian recipes. Some look as good as they sound. I couldn’t identify individuals who wrote the post. I can tell the recipes are so good that it won’t matter. Below will be the ones that caught my eye.

SBITEN: This hot honey drink sounds like it would be a slice of heaven in the winter. You’ve got spices like cloves and cinnamon broken in to pieces. Also, nutmeg and ginger. These are boiled in water or a wine. You can add chilies. From there your sweet favtor is honey and blackberry jam.

KURNIK: This is Russia’s Chicken Pot Pie. Yeah… Pass me a serving of this. It’s the classic chicken pot pie with elevated flavor of dill.

BEEF STROGANOFF (STTAGNOV): This is a classic comfort food. It’s beefy and thick sauce and mushrooms. Served over potatoes in some form or noodles. I am sure each region of the former Soviet block had their way of making this. This recipe calls for mustard seed or whole grain mustard. That’s a new one. I am sure that you could use a less expensive cut of beef. Good luck finding it. Mushrooms, onions, sour cream and you have to make a classic roux with flour and butter. Beef broth or a dark red wine. Tomato paste. This is where the tomatoe paste in a tube will be handy.

RUSSIAN “OLIVIE” SALAD: In the Russian language this is called Π‘Π°Π»Π°Ρ‚ “ОливьС”. With this you have potatoes, cartots, pickles, cucumbers and peas. With bologna. Possibly a onion and chives. For the dressing its simply as it gets. Mayo. Yeah.

WHITE RUSSIAN CAKE: Now let’s look at a sweet dessert. This cake is vanilla and chocolate in one cake. Once it’s baked you soak it withKalua or coffee liqueur. πŸ₯° Need I say more….

That’s it. These are the dishes that stood out to me. How about you? What dish from the post stood out to you. If you grew up eating these, what’s your favorite????

Memorial Day

Growing up with a Veteran for a father this day was never about grilling, sales, or other commericalized nonsense we see today. It is disgusting.

We used to do things that had meaning. Cleaning memorial stones, retiring a flag, or serving a meal at the AM Vets or VFW. We didn’t celebrate the sacrifice of lives.

As I have gotten older I’ve come to understand all the lies which every war has been told to get a population in war. I can no longer stand by for this. I won’t stand by while American lives are thrown away because of greedy politicians. NO.

Summer Meal Planning

Here’s how we plan our summer meals; simple. Seriously! Summer is hot enough, so we avoid using the oven as much as possible.

Slow Cooker: Yeah! I use my slow cooker mainly in the summer so I don’t have to use the oven.

Cold Meals: This might sound odd but it’s not as strange as it might sound. Salads and sandwiches are abundant here during the summer. Salad could be a pasta salad. Or an olive based salad.

Breakfast For Dinner: This is a favorite. It’s easy and I can do egg bites in the insta pot also we have an air fryer.

What is your approach to summer meal plan?

Who wants to spend summer afternoons or evenings in a hot kitchen. I will pass, thank you. You know the drill, below will be the ones that screamed make me.

HOT HONEY CHICKEN THIGHS: These chicken thighs would be awesome. You can adjust the heat to your (and families) tolerance. Plus you can use the brand that you use.

Insta Pot Coconut Salmon with Fresh Herbs and Lime: Just the title got my eye. Insta Pot…. This sounds great for a summer dinner. Seriously! Your girl here loves salmon. This has fish sauce which screams Asian.

EASY ONE-PAN RATATOUILLE: This is veggie heavy. This version could be made on a grill over indirect heat.

Slow Cooker Pulled Chicken: Slow cookers ie Crockpot are awesome for summer cooking. This is chicken but I have to be hones I prefer pork for pulling. The fat in pork helps to make it tender. I just do not get that with chicken. Don’t get me wrong, I like BBQ chicken from the grill.

Spicy Instant Pot Peanut Noodles: This would be a great side for the salmon above. There’s veggies in it and it’s an Asian dish.

Insta Pot Ribs: Oh yeah! I have been making ribs in the insta pot since 2017. I prefer country ribs. Place your ribs in the pot insert with water. I use half a cup of Dr. Pepper. The ribs come out tender. Then you can glaze them down for the grill.

That’s it. No oven needed. Keep in mind if you’re going to grill, try doing a batch grilling.

I choose this because I thought it would be a fun post. You ever wonder where a food item came from. I have. Lasagna hands down is done best by Italians. Sandwiches are like that. You wonder where they came from. The post above gives a brief description of where sandwiches came from. Below will be three of my favorites.

SAVORY: So I guess this is the path I am going here. Savory favorite I have two. Cuban and open face Thanksgiving turkey sandwich. It’s gravy poured over turkey layed on bread and heated up. Yum! The Cuban is two forms of pork, dill pickle and a swiss cheese.

SWEET: Frozen first. Chocolate chip cookies with ice cream. What better treat in the summer. Peanutbutter and jelly. Preferably grape jelly thank you.

New Uses For Old Towels

This post has great ideas to repurpose old towels that have seen better days. I made the cleaning towels. I started out to make wash clothes.

It was simple. Remove trim from bottom. Cut down to the size you want. Then sew (or serge) the edges so the cloth doesn’t fray. Done. If you want to put fancy edges on them, go for it. They are yours. However, the towel I used was so old and worn out that I just cut it fown and serged the edges.

10 Helpful Cooking Tips From 1950s Housewives! πŸ½

https://retrohousewifegoesgreen.com/cooking-tips-from-1950s-housewives/

This post was inspired by Lisa Sharp at Retro Housewife Goes Green. It’s a combination of tips she has collected over time. Below are ones I liked.

AVOID MESSES: Use newspaper to collect peels from vegetables. Of course, today we garbage disposals. I personally don’t like them. So if I peel veggies, I will us a GB (Garbage Bowl) thank you Rachel Ray.

ORGANIZATION: This such a simple idea. But it saves so much time. Before you start cooking gather everything you need. Have your recipe (or recipes) at hands reach with utensils. This is something I remember my late mom doing. And her mom did.

BAKE ONCE EAT TWICE: That’s right. When you have your oven going do a batch cooking. Save your self time and energy over the summer.

PREPARE ICE CREAM AHEAD: Seriously! Scoop out ice cream and place on a cookie sheet to freeze. This way you have the scoops ready and you just have to pull them out and serve.

What are some tips you grew up with? Feel free to share.

Why Freezing Food Is Good For You And The Planet

https://www.french-secrets.com/post/why-freezing-food-is-good-for-you-and-the-planet

Freezing food is a great idea. Y’all know I have been sharing Jamerrill Stewart, Amy Mayron and Kimmie Hughes channels for some time now. Especially their freezer meals.

Adeline renforces this concept. Of course, you have to to do this in a manner that is safe foryour freezer. Because they are expensive and it helps to preserve the food as well. Besides when you freeze meals you cook, you know what’s in them. I often wonder why people buy these garbage in boxes called convenience meals. Do they not understand why is in these? The preservatives are things most people can’t identify.

Time! Where do you get the time to make freezer meals? Simple. Take one day a week and do some batch cooking or each time you make a meal, double (or triple) the recipe and freeze it. You see these Tyson meals with a roast and veggies. Do the same and add seasoning when you’re ready to throw the roast in your oven or Crockpot or Insta Pot.

Adeline has other articles on her post you may want to check out. I know I have enjoyed her post. I am sure you will too. πŸ₯°
