Food Recalls

What in the hell is going on? We have three recalls to look at. These did happen Wednesday and Thursday. Fry’s Food Stores Recalls Cheese Dips Because of Possible Health Risk, Serafin Fishery Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Anchovies, Eggs, Milk, Soy in Salmon Dip and Whitefish Dip, and Smith’s Recalls Cheese Dips Because of Possible Health Risk.

Reasons:

Potential for Salmonella and undeclared Eggs, Milk, Anchovies, and Soy. Seriously! We need to start making these things ourselves. At least we will know what is and isn’t in it. Take one day a week to do your food prep for a week. This will set you up to eat healthily and save money by not going to fast foods. That adds up. I will leave you some links with great plans.

Wal-Mart Walk Through

I seen a video by Christian at Ice Age Farmer about a Ross out in San Francisco is having trouble getting goods to put out for customers. I found sections of our local Wal-Mart had empty spaces in their shoe department. There was one box of half-gallon jars in the canning section. Zero lids.

As usual Word Press won’t allow me to upload the video or pictures for this post. So you can to www. youtube.com search scratch kitchen tracie smith and you can see it. So for the inconvenience wordpress created.

Utility Closet Organized

I finally got the utility closet done. Yet I stepped back and immediately there were about a hundred things I would do differently. This is why organizing is a never-ending task. Of course, that’s what keeps Pinterest and Instagram going is people constantly organizing and reorganizing. I still have my canning and baking supply closet to finish. I am going to go through Pinterest and see what I like and what I don’t. Then go from there.

Washington State Hoarding Food

I came across a video by Christian from Ice Age Farmer this morning. It sparked me into doing this video. Christian also posted a video yesterday from a news channel out of San Fransico about a Ross store which is having trouble getting goods to put on their shelves and racks. A couple of weeks ago we saw an article about an aluminum shortage. Also, we have seen articles about people having regret about the number of bean products they bought because they will never use them. First of all, this is socially engineered to feel a certain way. These items can be used for bartering. So they aren’t a waste of money. Anything you buy today you can always use it in different ways.

What is shameful is that we have stopped raising our kids to prepare for any and all situations. I wasn’t raised to be prepared for financial hardships. Or pandemics. There is nothing wrong with having a plan to survive anything. I will include a link to DHS (Department Homeland Security) with downloadable forms to make plans for a various things.

Food And Storms

Let’s talk about Trump right quick. Saturday he made a comment that he may have to go underground. He had made a comment that he had made ‘rich enemies’. Yesterday someone tried to shot at him. First, he has two ex-wives, if anyone was going to shot him they would have by now. These ‘enemies’ are his friends. Friendships that go back 20 to 40 years.  I am calling this what I see, Political Theater. In other words, BULLSHIT!

Over the last 24 hours, we saw a storm named Derecho push across the country like a mac truck. It is pretty much-destroying everything in its path. This on top of other issues with the COVID-19 affecting the labor force, farmers need this storm like a bullet to the head. Also, a pending economical depression. Maybe the bullet might be the merciful thing to do. There have been farmers finding themselves with the ability to grow wheat and soybeans parallel to each other.

Kitchen Reorganizing

This is a never ending task. We walk in room and immediately see what doesn’t work that we thought would work perfectly. Nope! I am not even going to lie to myself or you by saying it’s done. It’s never done. There is always one thing and next thing we know it’s the whole room.

Food: The Ultimate Weapon

“Who controls the food supply controls the people; who controls the energy can control whole continents; who controls money can control the world.”

— Henry Kissinger

We are seeing these play out right before our eyes. Our food system is being dismantled right in front of us and we are too blinded by other things like COVID-19, executive orders, and political theater. Chicago Tribune did an article on canning and it’s merits. Think about that for a minute. They are telling people to relearn how to can. Below is a link to a recall due to food allergy threat.

Christian from Ice Age Farmer did a video on how the Rockefeller foundation is pushing to ‘Reset’ our table. Not their table so much as ours. The quote above is from a sadistic ass Henry Kissinger. He said this years ago about in his 40s. Now we are seeing exactly what he had in mind. The links to the article he covered will be below.

OSHA guidance:

Use Your Pressure Canner for Water Bath Canning

This is a quick video showing you how to use your pressure canner for a water bath. It’s so easy. The advantage of not having the gauge showing your pressure is you can turn the top upside down and use the steam created from the water to clean your spout.

Remember: If you have the gauge, DON’T turn the lid upside down as I did. You will ruin your gauge.

Water: The water must be 2 or 3 inches above the tops of the jars. Other than that have a ball. Don’t feel like you have to buy two different pieces of equipment. If I had taken more time in 2018 when I started canning, I would have known that I don’t need two different pots for this procedure.

Investment: Pressure canners are a better investment. Why? Because there are some foods that are low in acid like meat and beans which you can’t can in a water bath procedure. Meat and beans along with other low acid foods must be pressure canned. So dollar for dollar the pressure canner is a better investment because you can use it to water bath can.
