Linda is a master canner in Oregon. I have been watching her since 2018. I didn’t know that then but it explains the attention to detail she gives. Given the cost of everything going up at a mind boggling pace, I will be canning again in the fall.
Summer Meal Plan
Summer is hot enough as is. So here’s how we meal plan. EASY. Three days at a time. It saves gime and money.
SHOPPING: We do this on Thursday or Friday. We see what’s on sale and add to what we already have. If you can go once a month with refill runs.
MEALS: We don’t use the oven if we don’t have to. If we need to it’s early morning or late night. And we do batch cooking then.
GO OUTSIDE: Seriously! Get outside as much as possible. Of course, we in the north and north east areas are under air quality watch so use caution if you live here. Otherwise, plan on using your grill to make several meals at one time.
Hope this helps and please share.
7 Things I Do Every Day To Keep House Like It’s 1950
Look at this… 👀 https://pin.it/4srzfq8
In this post of Mid Century Modern Mommy, Emily shares what she does to keep her home as if it were the 1950s. What does this mean? During the 1950s women were housewives. Forget the bon bons and Oprah image you may have. I am talking cleaning and tidying up once kids were off to school and hubby was taking on the world.
Emily’s husband grew up with a mom who keep their home clean. Emily however was the opposite. She didn’t have chores to do growing up. So when they got married, she had to learn how to clean. Her mother-in-law was a single working mom and still keep her home 1950s standard of clean. We know where Emily went for advice. Below are the 7 things.
1. MAKE YOUR BED: I grew up with a mom who would yell at me if my bed wasn’t made. Even when I reached adulthood. Yeah! I will say that there’s something about making the bed. It’s like signaling the day has begun. That green flag.
2. CLEAN KITCHEN AFTER EACH MEAL: Keeping your kitchen clean will help make meal preparation easier. It’s tidy and ready for each meal. I am talking about clean up crumbs, and put dishes in the dishwasher or hand wash them. Have them clean and ready to use. I have a list of things to do each day ehen we are done in the living (for example) to have it ready each day to be used. We may not need a blanket every day. Mainly in the winter. So we are going in the summer but our cat likes a soft blanket so we left out a nice soft blanket for her. It stays folded when not in use.
3. DUST AND SWEEP: Back to our list. These are two of those things. Sweep or pickup papers you no longer need.
4. FOLLOW WEEKLY PLAN: Okay confession; I am not always great at this. I often get side tracked or I have such a day that I’m exhausted come seven o’clock. Have a daily and weekly plan and try to do at least four of the things.
5. MAKE TIME TO BE PRETTY: I can remember my late Grams never went to the table without what little makeup she did wear on. Breakfast was after she had herself together. Here’s somthing to think about, lot of your Victorian ladies didn’t really wear makeup. You bourgeois class did. But not the ones like us. For those of us who don’t wear makeup here’s what we can do. Brush hair and teeth. Make sure your clothing is nice and clean. Have a clean apron on when your spouse comes home.
6. SERVE MEALS ON TIME: This is where once a week or month prep work will help. Take one day a week for grocery shopping and prep you meal and veghies so all you have to do is pull out the bowl of onions, garlic, carrots and through everything in a slow cooker in the morning. Come dinnertime, everything is ready.
7. MAKE AND KEEP A BUDGET: This hard to do. Why? Because both people MUST agree to it and be willing to stick to it. That means one doesn’t go behind the other’s back and pull money out or hold it back. This was a never ending battle between Antonia’s father and me. He’d go take money out without telling me and I’d go to the store just for the insufficient funds beep. 🤬 Seriously! Most couples fight about money.
What are some things you and your family do to keep your home running smooth?
Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes | LargeFamilyTable.Com

Next week school ends for a lot of areas. So each Thursday we will look at how to feed you kids without killing you budget or holding you hostage in a hot kitchen.
Jamerrill Stewart has been doing large batch cooking for years and she has it down to an art. In this recipe she makes sloppy joes. Cheap easy and you can make a bunch and freeze it in portions you and your family will eat on all summer.
In this recipe, Jamerrill makes her own sauce. If your family has a sauce they like, ise it. She won’t be offended. Actually she’ll understand.
WHAT TO SERVE THEM ON? Garlic bread comes to mind. Just toast up some rolls with garlic butter on them. Or as a burrito filling. Serve Sloppy Joes in a baked potatoes. Next time you have you grill going, baked some potatoes off.
WHAT TO SERVE WITH THEM? We have the classic fires. Or you know the Checker’s Fries are incredible. You’d have the sweet from the sauce and spicy from the fries. Sweet potato fries would be good if you spicy on the sauce. Chips are always a favorite.
Ok but how did the Edwardians WASH these dresses?
If you think your laundry day bites, check out this video. Bernadette washes a dress like the Edwardian people would’ve done. By hand.
Night before she makes the soap. Yeah! Makes the soap. Of course, she also had to remove any stains. This must be done with care.
Next day! She has got to get early. Watch the video and you’ll understand. Because besides doing the wash, an Edwardian house servent would have their regular scheduled duties. Breakfast, starting a fire and keeping it going all day long. Tend to regular things and laundry.
Of course, Bernadette didn’t follow all of the original instructions. They called for gasoline and fire. Yeah! I am not sure how this would play out but I glad she didn’t go that route.
Venezuela Cuisine

In honor of the Venezuelan people having a new future with BRICS financial system, I will leave you with the above post.
South American cuisines have their similarities and their differences. I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting but I hope that day will come. Venezuelan culture is a mix of Europe, Africa, and native Latin American people.
Polvorosa De Pollo (Venezuela Chicken Pot Pie): Oh yeah! It’s pot pue with personality and attitude.
Arroz con Coco (Coconut Rice): Rice pudding from South if the border. The classic rice pudding with a delicious twist.
These are just two options. I hope you will enjoy this post and give the recipes a try.
Kabob Koobideh (Minced Meat Kebab)

In honor of the Iranians finally finding economic trading partners, I going to leave this post with kabobs. Because it’s summer and this is one more thing you can cook on a grill and not your kitchen.
What is this and what is served with it?
First let’s talk about the labobs themselves. It is minced meat (almost ground) and it’s seasoned very simply with onion, salt/pepper, tumeric and baking soda (optional) mix these together. (I would let this mixture set a while.) Then wrap it around metal skewers. Then grill and enjoy.
Serve Baghali Polo (Persian Dill Rice) and Barbari Bread. Veggie kabobs are welcomed to this party.

These are an awesome way to get your family feed without heating up your kitchen. We’re going to look at them from meal perspective. Stick with me.
BREAKFAST: A breakfast board could be bagels, muffins, or waffles. Fuits would be encouraged. Syrups could be placed in small jars.
LUNCH: Nice artisan rolls, cheese and cold meat. Whatever veggies you (and your family) likes.
DINNER: Taco board or bar. This could be dibe with hot dogs or hamburgers.
DESSERT: I don’t anyone who wouldn’t love a strawberry shortcake board. Sundae board. Ice cream sides like chocolate syrup bananaa and sprinkles.
What kind of board would or do you use to feed your crew….
GIANT Pattern Haul, UNBOXING 80 pounds of patterns (This is what 600 vin…
Stephanie was gifted four boxes of of patterns. The boxes topped out at about 80 lbs. Yeah! Keep in mind, as I am watching this video I am also working on this blog. Right off the bat she finds Career Barbie and M & M costumes. Then it hits her to organize this mess.
Vintage was used loosely. Meaning some patterns were from unknown decades. No real organization to the boxes. It was a lot of fun to watch.
FREE Vintage Pattern Haul! (Yes, you read that right, FREE)
I just came across Stephanie’s channel yesterday. She’s hilarious. I couldn’t stop watching her.
In this video she is reviewing patterns she scored for free. Some of these patterns look familiar. More the styles do. The ruffles and puffy sleeves you could float a couple of minutes in the ocean if your plane crashed.
Stephanie came across some children’s patterns for clothes and toys along with baby accessories. I enjoyed seeing how the styles from each decade managed to keep up with mainstream.
So I hope you enjoy this video.
