The Next 72 Hours

This is going to be a quick video and blog. Starting today Monday we are preparing to hunker down for the next 72 hours. Possible till Thursday. Prayer is going to be a huge part of this plan.

Make sure you have enough food, water, and pet supplies for the next 72 hours. Especially if you live in a large city like Detroit or New York. Be ready for anything that could come in your direction and the possibility you won’t have 911 to call. I am not fear-mongering. That isn’t what I am about. We are looking at possibilities of what could be coming out going into the selection on November 3.

Checklist:

Food. Make sure you have enough proteins and good carbs. Allow some sweets which is a good thing they went out Saturday.

Water. The general rule is a gallon per person and pet.

First-aid supplies. What is someone who gets a cut from kitchen prep? Do you have what you need to clean the wound and bandage it? What a triple acting antibiotic cream or gel? Having these things could help. I am not saying prepare to stitch them up if you don’t know how to do this. I don’t. Just be ready with basic first-aid supplies.

Security. What are you going to do for security? We keep our door locked all the time. I have a brown belt in Karate. I haven’t practiced in years that is going to be a major downside for me. I do have a ball bat and my neighbor has a 22 and she is old school gangsta. She has a variety of mental dysfunctions. So that’s scary in itself.

Communications. I haven’t purchased a ham radio. You can interact with people on one. I have been considering getting a CB radio. My late parents had one. For those of you who don’t know what that is, think of a texting service with a larger capacity. I do have a hand-cranked radio. I reviewed it and shared it back in the September preparedness series.

Next Four Days

I am going to take the next four days to take care of somethings around here like cleaning summer use fans for winter storage. We need to get the windows cleaned and ready for the plastic covering for the winter. And Antonia has a wisdom that has come in with three right behind it. Yeah, teen years! I will be setting the November menu according to this.

Also, I am going to do some re-organizing that needs to be done. One last thing I am going to do is set my winter reading list. What do you plan on reading over the winter? I am going to take inventory of my pints for Blueberry Pie Filling and yes I will be reviewing the recipe.

Five Tips for Monthly Meal Planning

Here are my five got to tips for planning a month’s menu. The purpose of a monthly menu for us to not eat out. It’s a reminder that we have enough right here to through something else together if we don’t want to eat what’s on the menu for a day.

  1. Shop your home. Seriously! Go through your pantry and freezer to see what you have.
  2. Pull recipes your family enjoys and pull a new one to try. October’s new recipe was a hit. I am talking about the Honey Lime Chicken by Carrie Truman. OMG!!!. This is going in rotation at least twice a month and I have stir fry starters.
  3. Write out a list of what you need or put it on your phone. Stick to it while you are in the store. DON’T GO GROCERY SHOPPING HUNGRY! This is important. Most people make the mistake of going to the store with a list and a plan. They leave with half of what’s on their list plus what they impulse bought because they were hungry. GUILTY!!!
  4. Look at sales. What are you short on? It has come to my attention that I only have one open thing of cocoa. What am I doing with my life??? I will be picking up more at least four containers. I feel like that and the chocolate chips will be good.
  5. 2+2=1. This is a simple prepper rule of thumb. Basically when you use something replace it with two of the item.
